Westcoast Wools Pty Ltd (WCW) exports greasy wool of all types from fine Merino in Western Australia (WA) and crossbred wool from Eastern States of Australia.
WCW is the largest purchaser of carding wool types direct from woolgrowers in Western Australia.
The company was established in May 1996 and exports greasy and scoured wool worldwide.

Mr Davidson has twenty five years experience in the wool industry, locally and overseas and is well known to wool mill buyers in China.
‘WCW is a very flexible and pro active company. We have no excessive overheads, which gives us a competitive advantage.
We are very familiar with wool types traditional purchased by China. We supply any quality and measurement of wool specifications to customers. Our product is cost competitive, in particularly open top and carbonised types’, said Mr Davidson.

WCW buying and trading division is spearheaded by Luke Grant and Shane Kirkpatrick.
Mr Grant has 22 years experience in the wool industry in Australia and overseas. WCW is 100% Western Australian owned and Mr Grant is one of its four director owners.
‘WCW has experienced tremendous growth in the last couple of years’, said Mr Grant.
It will export 70,000 clean tonnes in this current financial year. The company employs a staff of 22 and has twelve country wool buyers including those in Sydney and Melbourne specialising in crossbred wools.
‘We have been exporting directly and indirectly to mills in China since 1999. We are very familiar with the wools they require. We also specialise in ‘blended wool types’ to meet Chinese customer needs, particularly in the knitting types and open top types of 18.0 micron to 22.0 micron. Chinese buyers have visited WCW warehouse operations and have viewed the potential to mix and match many suitable wools to keep costs down.’
‘Certain customers require a slightly longer length of wool than others and some have a different VM (vegetable matter) content, from 1.0VM to 8.0 VM. The lots sourced for a specific contract are expertly blended through “de-cotting or opening machines and then through large motorised blender machines” by classer-sorters in our warehouse. The contracted container can then be fed direct into the mill scour on arrival at mill’, says Mr Grant.
‘We can also supply scoured wool processed at Jandakot Wool Washing Plant in WA or through a nominated wool scour in Australia. We export to Japan, India and Europe.
Other shareholders are also very active in the day to day running of the business including Shane Kirkpatrick, Buying/Trading Manager, is mainly responsible for buying and trading Merino and crossbred combing wools. Formerly of Standard Wool, Shane Kirkpatrick came to WCW with a wealth of 24 years experience in the industry. He trained in La Tossee combing mill in France, Italy, Germany and China.
‘We offer a wealth of experience to our clients. We have a direct buying network with Australian wool growers as well as extensive representation at auctions. We have built a reputation of integrity and a reliable service to our customers worldwide’, concludes Mr Grant.
