About Us fORWARD sALES Marketing Options staff

Westcoast Wools Pty Ltd (WCW) exports greasy wool of all types from fine Merino in Western Australia and crossbred wool from the Eastern States of Australia.
WCW is the largest purchaser of carding wool types direct from woolgrowers in Western Australia.

‘WCW is 100% Australian owned and is a very flexible and pro active company. We have no excessive overheads, giving us a competitive advantage. We supply any quality and measurement of wool specifications to customer requirements. Our wools are competitively priced, in particular, our open top and carbonised types’, says Mr William Davidson, Company Sales Manager, who is responsible for all overseas contracts. Mr Davidson has twenty five years experience in the wool industry, locally and overseas.

WCW buying and trading division is spearheaded by Luke Grant and Shane Kirkpatrick.
Mr Grant, with 22 years experience in the wool industry in Australia and overseas is one of the company’s four director owners.

It will export over 70,000 clean tonnes in this current financial year. The company employs a staff of 22 and has twelve country wool buyers including those in Sydney and Melbourne specialising in crossbred wools.
‘Our company can source most Australian wool types to meet customer requirements. Certain customers require a slightly longer length of wool than others; some have a different VM (vegetable matter) content, from 1.0VM to 8.0 VM. The lots sourced for a specific contract are expertly blended through “de-cotting or opening machines and then through large motorised blender machines” by classer-sorters in our warehouse. The contracted container can then be fed direct into the mill scour on arrival at mill’, says Mr Grant. ‘If a customer or processor has a requirement for “off measured” wool types, we can supply this too’.

‘We also specialise in ‘blended wool types’ to meet specific customer needs, particularly in the knitting types and open top types of 18.0 micron to 22.0 micron’, says Mr Grant. ‘Our customers are always welcome to visit WCW warehouse operations
to see the potential for mixing and matching of many suitable wools. This also makes our product very cost effective.’
Other shareholders also very active in the day to day running of the business include Shane Kirkpatrick, Buying/Trading Manager, responsible for buying and trading Merino and crossbred combing wools. Formerly of Standard Wool, Shane Kirkpatrick came to WCW with a wealth of 24 years experience in the industry. He trained in La Tossee combing mill in France, Italy, Germany and China. Mr Kirkpatrick is very familiar with the requirements of major wool pr
ocessors worldwide and is experienced in sourcing specific wool types and meeting client demand.

Malcolm Edinger is responsible for quality control of the specific blended wool types. Mr Edinger has years of experience wool classing in Western Australia, private buying and trading.
John Kirkpatrick, a former Export Manager of Standard Wool, is the company specialist in the best style quality performance wools for European and Japanese customers. ‘We can supply scoured wool processed through a nominated wool scour in Australia. For example, sales to Japan are scoured at Michells and spun by Nankai Ltd in Malaysia. We also export to India and Europe’, says John Kirkpatrick.
‘Another major advantage is the wealth of experience that our team can offer to our clients. We have a direct buying network with Australian wool growers as well as extensive representation at auctions. We have built a reputation of integrity and a reliable service to our customers worldwide’, concludes Mr Grant.
